The History of Diving Museum will host the final lecture on man's quest to explore under the sea on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the History of Diving Museum, 82990 Overseas Highway at MM 83, bayside, Islamorada. The subject for September will be Deep Diving for Treasure

The earliest diving activities and apparatuses were made for the purposes of recovering sunken treasure. Spain used diving bells to salvage the 1733 Spanish Plate fleet in the mid-1700s. The early treasure salvage activities often utilized the indigenous people as tethered free divers to recover the booty. Today, machines can reach the depths of deep shipwrecks that lie far beyond the reach of mankind with such new technologies as remotely operated vehicles and robotics.

Join us as we explore such endeavors and the current state of diving for sunken treasure at the History of Diving Museum.

The event is free and open to the public.
